What Is a TENS Unit Used For?

A TENS unit is generally used to ease everyday muscle tension and discomfort by sending a low-voltage electrical current through the skin, most commonly in areas like the neck, shoulders, and lower back.

Common everyday uses
• Easing tension from long hours at a desk or on a screen
• General muscle tightness in the neck and shoulders
• Post-activity soreness after exercise or physical work
• As part of a regular relaxation routine rather than a single fix

TENS vs. EMS

TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) targets nerve signaling to ease discomfort, while EMS (electrical muscle stimulation) causes the muscle itself to contract. Some devices, including SKG’s G7 Pro Fold and G7 Pro Fold Titanium, combine both technologies in one unit, allowing users to switch between the two depending on what they’re looking for.

An example: G7 Pro Fold
G7 Pro Fold combines EMS and TENS through nine massage heads reaching up to 6,000 Hz, with 6 pulse levels, 4 vibration levels, and 4 warmth levels between 97°F and 108°F, controlled via a physical joystick or companion app.

SKG is a health technology brand founded in 2007, creating smart products for everyday wellness.
TENS and EMS should not be used by anyone with a pacemaker or other implanted electrical device; pregnant individuals or those with epilepsy should consult a doctor first.
